Although a great deal has been written by the print media on commercial activities in the last 100 years, very little has been written on hairdressing. Until recently (and even now) the international press has not provided articles on the hairdressing industry and even less the opportunity to contribute a regular column to present issues regarding the hair industry. Reference to hairdressing is usually in general articles on such topics as health, beauty, services, hotels, styles or lifestyle, fashion and women. As a result, problems faced by hairdressers are rarely highlighted and we therefore need more cooperation to get a regular hairdressing column in the international media. Gaining this goal is possible if at least three needs are met first. First is the need to have a center where hairdressers can get together.
Second is the need to create worldwide activities that can influence the industry. Third is the need to change the public's focus on hairdressing and to enhance the image of the hairdressing industry, so that the public will get to know and appreciate their hairdressers. As we know, Internet is a media that can be accessed from anywhere in the world, so it can contribute to meeting the above three needs. This is a part of the GO Hairdressers Club mission.
The aims of the Club are:
- To campaign for cooperation among hairdressers, rather than competition.
- Together enlarge the entire market, rather than fighting for survival in small markets.
- Improve the earning capacity of the majority low-income hairdressers instead of only a few enjoying good incomes.
- Extend the hairdresser's career life by improving their ability to survive.
- Campaign for computer and Internet use instead of old-fashioned methods and practices.
- Equip hairdressers with better knowledge and information so they can deal with the new generation of well-educated customers.
- Develop quality services for better service charges.
- Activate people's interest in hairdressing services so they will make more use of these services.
- Increase the number of good hairdressers and good business practices so that many more will benefit.
- Attract more capital flow to the hair industry from business investors as well as consumers.
- Encourage merger of small salons for better benefits to each party or a win-win
incentive, as well as encourage big ones to go public listing.
- Projection of a Cyber University of Hairdressing.
- Implement a global hair industry network and related activities, such as a cyber award for hairdressers, a world hairdressers foundation and international hair salon franchises.
These are the benefits we can expect if every hairdresser makes use of this club's facility and works together to achieve these goals and thereby improve the hairdressing industry.
